Weaving fabric from the fiber of the local ginestra plant is a very large part of San Pietrese heritage. Looms and artisans anxious to share their tradition are waiting for you.

Ceramic artisans using the ancient decorating technique of graffito are in nearby Squillace, one of only 23 DOC certified ceramic locations in Italy.

Time can be spent doing geneological research as you discover and experience the profound emotions of finding your roots and reconnecting with family.

We can focus on interests ranging from ancient Greek and Roman history to more recent history. A dive into the politics of the region over the years reveals a profound and poignant story of land, power and class struggles on a backdrop of the stark contrasts of abject poverty and extreme wealth.

Cooking classes are available incorporating traditional, local ingredients. You can bake bread, make delicious food, drink local wine, eat and laugh around an overflowing table where the only thing that matters is spending time together.

The story of silk in this region is fascinating. Before the industrialization of silk production, this area was famous for some of the best silk in Europe. In the nearby village of San Floro a cooperative of young artisans have returned to thier home village and rediscovered the ancient silk tradition. Their production and processing of silk is of great historical and cultural significance. Their main activity is sericulture (silk production), in all its stages, from the cultivation of mulberry trees to the production of the precious yarn. There is also a dedicated Silk Museum set in an ancient XV Century castle

Treks at all levels into beautiful worlds in both mountainous and coastal regions abound and are replete with fascinating stories and bits of history of Greeks and Romans, Normans, Arabs, Spaniards and even pirates! The beaches and clear blue waters of the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas await!

Local artistry including lace making, photography and watercolor using colors extracted from regional wild flowers can be explored. Days can be spent looking for the perfect colors, the perfect lighting, the perfect stolen moment.

Le Cantine e Frantoio Statti offers tours and tastings. Since 1700 the Baroni Statti have been producing wine and olive oil on this land. Continuing today with a deep respect for the past and eyes on the future they have become completely self sustainable.

A formal language immersion course is also available. Your teacher will be with you throughout your stay. Learn the language by living it!
